How Will You Pray?

Prayer is important. It is a form of worship.

How you pray says a lot about who or what you are worshiping.

Today I want to give you a simple test to see if your prayers this political season are inline with the heart of God or that of Mammon.

I will never argue that it isn't important to pray for our leaders and the people who may or may not become are leaders.

First of all, then, I ask that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings should be offered for everyone, especially for kings and all who are in high positions, in order that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in a deeply religious and reverent spirit.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 (OEB)

However, I do believe that examining how we pray for our earthly leaders is a good litmus test for seeing who it is we are truly serving.

Imagine with me for a moment.

Imagine in a few days that it is announced that Donald Trump will be the next President of the United States.

How will you pray?

Now, imagine with me again.

Imagine in a few days that it is announced that Kamala Harris will be the next President of the United States.

How will you pray?

Good, thank you for imagining with me.

Now, those two imagined prayers, were they different, or were they the same?

If they were similar or the same, congratulations. I believe that is a good indicator that your heart is in the right place, and you are choosing to honor God above the powers of this world.

If you prayed quite differently depending on which candidate ends up becoming President, my advice would be to spend some time alone with God and make sure that your prayers are aligned with His will and not the will of the powers of this world.

You are Love.
